The Red Lightning prospect area is underlain by mafic and intermediate volcanic rocks of the Middle Jurassic Salmon Creek Formation, Hazelton Group. Mineralized host rocks are tholeiitic mafic intrusive within mafic volcaniclastic rock. The South Lightning showing is part of the Corey property, under investigation by Kenrich-Eskay Mining Corp since the mid 1980s to present (2012).

In 2006, during investigation of an AeroTEM electromagnetic conductor, prospectors discovered an area of strong gossan cropping out on the north-facing mountain slopes above the Mandy Valley. Grab samples contained around 0.5 per cent copper and 5 grams per tonne gold (2009 Exploration Report on the Corey Property by McKinley, Tennant and Nelles (Kenrich-Eskay Mining Website)). Follow-up geological mapping identified a 5- to 10-metre-wide, 100-metre-long steeply northeast dipping zone of oxidized iron sulphide within a chloritized massive mafic volcanic rock.

This zone was tested in 2007 by four drillholes, RL-1 to RL-4, three of which intersected a strongly chlorite-epidote altered mafic sub-volcanic sill. This contained stratabound network vein hosted to semi-massive pyrite-pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite over widths of up to 20 metres drilling thickness, with a notable horizon of precious metal enrichment, over a strike length of at least 60 metres. A 1-metre drill interval assayed 5.74 grams per tonne gold, 2.8 grams per tonne silver and 0.18 per cent copper, (Assessment Report 30131).

In 2008, drilling comprised 1749.4 metres of diamond drilling in 7 drillholes (CR08-83 to CR08-89) from three drillpads. Drilling targeted the down-dip extensions of the sulphide mineralization intersected in the 2007. Drillhole CR08-86 intercepted a steeply northeast dipping zone of intrusive sill-hosted mineralization. This zone comprises network-veined to semi-massive pyrite-pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite enveloping a 5.3 metre (estimated true thickness) interval of fine-grained massive pyrite-pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite with grades of 1.03 per cent copper, 0.55 per cent nickel, 0.10 per cent cobalt, 0.16 gram per tonne platinum, 0.15 gram per tonne palladium and 1.1 gram per tonne gold (Executive Summary, Eskay Property, Eskay Mining Corp, March 2010 (www.eskaymining.com)). These sulphides are interpreted to be magmatic in origin rather than hydrothermal. This zone of orthomagmatic copper-nickel-cobalt (-platinoid) mineralization remains open along strike to the north and south.

In 2016, C.J. Greig & Associates Ltd., on behalf of Eskay Mining Corp., conducted reconnaissance soil and stream and rock sampling on the Sib/Corey property. Several rock samples were collected near the Red Lightening prospect. Of note were sample CB-16-051, located at UTM 414311 metres East and 6257833 metres North, assaying 7.46 grams per tonne gold, 18.70 grams per tonne silver and greater than 1 per cent arsenic and; CB-16-052, at UTM 414152 metres East and 6257782 metres North, assaying 7.35 grams per tonne gold, 13.90 grams per tonne silver and greater than 1 per cent arsenic (Assessment Report 36739). Sample CB-16-051 was taken from a 10-centimetre-thick arsenopyrite-quartz vein in outcrop on a cliff ledge next to glacier. The host rock was foliated lapilli tuff with 50 per cent fine grained arsenopyrite. The strike of the vein was 325 with minus 40 degrees dip. Alteration was noted as manganese-carbonate. Sample CB-16-052 was 35 centimetres thick and similarly mineralized, having a strike of 023 degrees. The host rock type was not reported.

See Sib (Lulu) (104B 376) and Cumberland (104B 011) for further details of work done on the Sib and Corey property.
